DIY Tuesday: Felt Easter Egg Warmers | Gör-det-själv-tisdag: Äggvärmare i filt till påsk

Easter is actually upon us, even though it doesn't quite feel like it. Too snowy, by far... But what's better than staying inside making some Easter craft when it's too icy outside? This is my favorite from last year, they are based on the egg warmers we used in my family when I was a kid. I shared the tutorial last year, you can find it here.

Snart är det påsk även om det inte alls känns så. Alldeles för snöigt... Men vad är väl bättre än att stanna inne och påskpyssla när det är för isigt och kallt ute? Det här är min favorit från förra året, de är baserade på äggvärmarna vi använde till påsk när jag var liten. Jag lade upp en beskrivning förra året, den kan du hitta här.

DIY Hama Bead Easter Eggs | Gör-det-själv: Påskägg av pärlplattepärlor

Anyone up for a really small almost-too-late Easter project? It's always good to be prepared in advance for next year, or maybe the kids are bored and need an easy project?

This morning I made some Hama bead decorations for my Easter tree, or "påskris" in Swedish (read all about this great Swedish tradition, with an American twist, at Aunt Peaches). Super easy, and done in a flash. These babies can be varied indefinitely when it comes to colors and pattern. I used beads in the ordinary midi size, ironed them, and hung the eggs with sewing thread (since I was out of ribbons). Done!

YAY - the Easter bunny came to our house yesterday, and hid the eggs in the garden (in the snow...). There were Easter eggs for everyone - candy-filled for the most of us, but with corn sticks (aka "majskrokar") for the baby. Happiness for everyone.

The Easter witch | Påskkärringen

In Sweden we tend to mix traditions, and at Easter rabbits and eggs are mixed with feathers and witches.

The traditional Swedish Easter witch (påskkärring) goes to the mountain of Blåkulla on what I think is called Maundy Thursday. Today, that is. So, today is the day when all Swedish kids (and some of their accompanying moms) dress up as witches. The set-up is the well known Halloween one, but in order to get candy on Maundy Thursday you have to provide a home-made Easter card.

This year we kind of excelled in potato printing.

Äntligen skärtorsdag hurra hurra. Vi pysslade ihop påskkort och en påskhink att ha kort och framför allt godiset i. Sedan var det bara att tåga iväg.

An Easter bird's nest dessert | Efterrätt med påskfågelbo

For our crafternoon (yay!) last Saturday, I made the yummiest raspberry mousse ever (recipe in Swedish found here). Helena at Craft & Creativity came up with the idea of decorating regular plastic cups with washi tape, and it felt appropriate to put a candy egg bird's nest on top. The gorgeous gorgeous washi tape is from Bookbinders Design.

DIY Felt Easter Egg Warmer -- tutorial and pattern | Gör-det-själv: Äggvärmare till påsk -- instruktioner och mönster

When I was little, we had egg warmers at Easter and I loved them. So, this year I decided that it was time I made my own set. They are super simple to make, and are made out of - wait for it - felt.

Below is a tutorial for those of you who'd like to whip up a few for Easter. I promise, this is a quick project!

You need: yellow, red and white felt, sequins, yellow thread, and glue. That's it.

Above is one of my mom's original ones, and below are the two pattern pieces in cardboard.

Fold the yellow felt and adjust the pattern along the folded side. Pin or mark with a special marking pen, and cut the two layers at the same time.

It might be easier to cut the folded fabric if it is secured with a few pins.

Cut one piece of the smaller pattern piece in red felt. This will become the hen's (or rooster's maybe?) beak and comb. Put the red piece between the two yellow layers, so that a bit of the beak and comb sticks out, creating the hen/rooster. Pin the pieces together.

With a sewing machine (or by hand if you like), sew the three layers together with one seam.

Cut out two circles of white felt (I used a small button as pattern). Use two sequins in a color that you like, glue them to the white circles, and glue the eyes to the bird.

Done! Easy peasy, right? Please let me know if you have questions, or if something is unclear. This is my first tutorial ...

I made a set of four egg warmers, but will probably make more. I have to buy more felt first though, I used the good stuff from Wollfilz.

Here are the pattern pieces, ready to print out. Make sure to print them in 100%, check that the measuring line to the left is accurate compared to your own measuring tape.

Easter crafternoon | Påskpysseldag

Yesterday we had an Easter crafternoon (don't you just love that word?) here. I had invited a few friends and their children over, and we went crazy with Easter crafting. Some of the kids preferred to play upstairs, but that only brought enhanced possibilities for the moms (and one dad...) to work more focused. A win-win situation, clearly. We had a great time!

Martha Stewart was one source of inspiration. I think the daffodil candy cups turned out pretty cute.

When all creativity had left me in the end, all I came up with was the paper chicken (no, it is not made by one of the kids)... It did a good job decorating the egg platter later at dinner though. And yes, you do need matchboxes at Easter too. Remember the Christmas ones?

Easter feathers | Påskfjädrar

I really like Easter feathers. They look like candy at the flower's market, and - yet again - it is something that brightens up this grey month. I am really REALLY happy spring is around the corner now.

To make this holiday season a little bit longer, I usually decorate the branches with feathers only at first. A few days before Easter, I add the other decorations.

Swedish Easter decorations come in bright colors, you can buy the branches "ready-made" at the market, or buy feathers and decorate yourself. Inside and outdoors, if you like.
