Book Review: Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter | Bokrecension: Enkelt att sy av Lotta Jansdotter

I like Lotta Jansdotter a lot. She makes really nice fabrics and has some very cool ideas. Her book Simple Sewing (Chronicle Books, 2007) is clean, fun, and clever. She was born in Sweden but now lives in Brooklyn where she creates fabrics, patterns, papergoods, and candles (!). Her style is really easy to like (according to me...), it's a mixture of Scandinavian light and fun colors.

Jag gillar Lotta Jansdotter mycket. Hon gör helt fina tyger och har mycket coola idéer. Hennes bok Enkelt att sy (Natur & Kultur, 2008) är snygg, rolig och smart. Hon är född i Sverige men bor nu i Brooklyn där hon skapar tyger, mönster, papperssaker och ljus (!). Hennes stil är enkelt att tycka om (enligt mig...), en blandning av skandinaviskt ljus och roliga färger.

 I have made a few tote bags based on her pattern (above left), and it was totally easy to follow. And easy to adjust, even though I'm not very experienced at sewing.

Jag har sytt några tygkassar baserade på hennes mönster (ovan till vänster), och det var helt enkelt att följa. Och enkelt att anpassa, även om jag inte är en så van sömmerska.

But what I like the most about this book, apart from the easy-to-follow patterns, are the smart projects. There are no clothes here, only cool bed pockets, curtains with pockets, aprons, bags, newspaper holders, and much more. I'm so going to try the bed pocket (above left, perfect for our tiny bedroom) and the worm that stops draught from windows. Clever, huh?

The photos above are from the Swedish edition which I think is somewhat different looking from the American one. But the photos and the projects are surely the same. Have you tried making anything from this book? Leave a comment and let us know!

Men vad jag gillar mest med boken, förutom att mönstren är så lätta att följa, är de smarta projekten. Det är inga kläder här, bara coola sängfickor, gardiner med fickor, förkläden, väskor, tidningshållare och mycket mer. Jag kommer absolut att försöka att göra en sängficka (ovan till vänster, passar perfekt i vårt minisovrum) och ormen som stoppar drag från fönster. Hur fiffigt är inte DET?
