Bring 'em on! | Kom an!

We're ready for the bunch of 4 and 5 year olds coming to A:s birthday party tomorrow! Even the scavenger hunt is done. Yay! Do you know the game above? It's a classic.

Summary in Swedish: Allt är fixat inför morgondagens femårskalas.

Things my husband never thought he'd do on a Thursday night (before he met me, that is):

Drill small holes into five tiny plastic dinosaurs
Gold spray paint five tiny plastic dinosaurs

I'm very happy for his help though, since I have been busy with another project (you'll see on Tuesday).

The golden dinosaurs are inspired by this great idea by The Sweetest Occasion (with tutorial), and it's perfect for the birthday party we'll have Saturday for A who turns five and wishes to have a green and golden theme.

Update: Oh how I long for a better camera. These pictures don't make the dinos justice at all. Bear with me, I'm saving for a new camera. That'll be a major improvement!

Summary in Swedish: Vi har gjort fantastiska guldfärgade ljushållardinosaurier till A:s femårskalas.

The decorated tree (no, not the Christmas kind) | Ett pyntat träd (nej, inte julgranen)

If I had a large tree in my garden, I would decorate it in bright colors at exactly this time of the year. In Stockholm, everything looks grey-beige (is that even a real color?) these days, since the snow has almost disappeared but it's still too cold for flowers. This tree in central Stockholm surely brightened up my day though!

I don't think this would be too difficult to copy. You could spray paint plastic balls in bright colors and hang them with regular string. Wouldn't it look great and cheery?

It even looks fun from a distance, and really stands out from the surroundings. Happy happy!

Elisabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket

It's Tuesday and time for another sewing circle meeting. Remember that I had some yarn left after finishing the granny square baby blanket? I used the leftover Hillesvåg Superwash (a Norwegian 4-ply machine washable 100 % worsted wool) to make a Baby Surprise Jacket. The pattern is by Elisabeth Zimmermann, and it is pure genius! The jacket is made in one piece, with simply two seams at the sleeves. When I started knitting, I had no idea where the pattern had begun, the idea is that you knit something that looks really weird, fold it, and - big surprise! - you have a jacket!
It was maybe not the best idea to make stripes since I didn't really know if I was starting with the sleeves or back, and I didn't really know how the stripes would match up in the end. But I was lucky and it turned out alright.

It was a fast knit, and I can strongly recommend you to try this project! The pattern is found in Elisabeth's book The Opinionated Knitter. The sleeves are not terribly long, but I thought that was a good thing really. It suited my newborn just fine. The Purl Bee adjusted the pattern and made a collar which also looked nice. They also show a picture of the weird-looking knit before it's folded. Who could imagine this thing would turn into a baby jacket?

Five things I pinned last week | Fem saker från Pinterest förra veckan

As I did last Monday, I'd like to share with you some of the pictures and ideas I've found and pinned on Pinterest lately. Here goes:

From How about Orange
I love the lotus flower pattern from the Norwegian mid-century design brand and enamel cookware producer Cathrineholm, and here is a tutorial of how to make your own candle light holders decorated with their signature flower logo.
From eighteen25
One of my friends remembers everyone's birthdays. EVERYONE'S. I'm not like that, unfortunately, so I really need to make a birthday calendar like this. I have tried to write birthdays down in a book in order to remember them, but then I forget to check the book regularly, and the birthdays are forgotten again...

Enter this great wall hanged calendar. Decorate it with nice paper and hang it somewhere at home or in the office. I will never miss a birthday again with this!

The fabric from Outside Oslo is FABULOUS. And Purl Bee has used it to make lovely tote bags.

I look forward to arranging a party to that I can try out these chocolate party spoons! Or maybe I should just make them on a regular Friday night? They are so cute, delicious-looking, easy, and instant party-makers!

From Vulture.com
I've sort of saved the best for last. Who doesn't love the TV series Downton Abbey? And who can do without these Downton Abbey paper dolls until season three begins? Make sure you don't miss the paper doll of the dowager countess...

DIY Origami birds | Gör-det-själv: Origamifåglar

I admit it, I really like making origami cranes. They are so pretty, and quite addictive to make. There are plenty of instruction videos on YouTube, I used this one. Use the search terms "origami" and "crane" and you'll find plenty. Or try making rabbits, swans, giraffes, or geometric figures. Anything goes, really.

I am sorry for the horrible backdrop, but at least you can see all of the birds here...
Which is your favorite origami animal?

It's party day! The blog I heart organizing is arranging a link party called Project Pretty, dedicated to making storage fabulous. I should probably focus on getting the basics on organizing in order first, but it's so much more fun to make things pretty. So let me introduce to you - the washi tape shelves! And the washi tape clothespins! And the washi tape labels! You get the idea... Doesn't it look nicer?

Happy Friday!

Summary in Swedish: Bloggen I heart organizing ordnar ett länkkalas idag på temat Snygg förvaring. Glad fredag!
